Best Mileage Tracking App for Gig Workers
What to look for in a mileage app when you run more than one gig: time, miles, earnings, and expenses in one place. GigMeter is on the App Store for iPhone.
The best mileage app for gig work is the one that records the shift you actually ran: hours, miles, payouts from every platform, and the money that went back out. A miles-only log leaves you guessing whether Tuesday was worth it.
GigMeter is an iPhone app built for that full picture. Download on the App Store.
What “best” means when you run more than one gig
DoorDash, Uber, Instacart, Amazon Flex, Field Agent, and a one-off mystery shop do not share a ledger. You need one clock, one mileage total for the session, and a place to type each payout.
Look for:
- Clock in and clock out, so hours are not a guess
- Miles counted while you are on the clock
- Earnings you can label by platform
- Expenses that actually come off net, including gas if you want that
- A live net hourly rate while you still have time to stop or keep going
What GigMeter does
You clock in, work, log payouts and expenses, then clock out. The session summary puts net first, then net per hour, gross per hour, and net per mile (or kilometer). Reports cover today, week, month, and year to date. You can export CSV or PDF from the phone.
If you save a vehicle, GigMeter can estimate gas from miles, that vehicle’s MPG, and the gas price you entered. The estimate becomes a normal expense at clock out. Parking and tolls are still entries you add yourself.
What it does not do
GigMeter does not import payouts from Uber, DoorDash, or anyone else. You enter what you were paid. It does not apply the IRS mileage rate to your miles, and miles themselves are not subtracted from net. Distance is a record and a rate on screen. Fuel only hits net if you turn on Auto Gas Mileage Tracking or add a gas expense.
It is iPhone only (iOS 17+). Clock in and saving a new earning or expense require GigMeter Pro. Reports and Settings stay usable without it. There is a 14-day App Store trial on the subscription, not a permanent free GPS tracker.
Part-time and contractor work
The same loop works if you only go out on weekends, or if the “gig” is Field Agent, Observa, or a freelance drive rather than rideshare. You pick the platforms you use during setup, or add a name later. Miles still only count while a session is running and not paused.
How to choose among apps
Write down what you need this week: hours, miles, multi-app pay, gas, a report you can hand to a tax pro. Match that list to what the app actually stores. If an app is miles for a tax form and nothing else, it will not tell you whether a three-hour Instacart block beat sitting at home.
Download GigMeter, clock in on the first shift, and log every payout before you forget the number. Monthly and yearly include a 14-day free trial.
