How to Start Tracking Mileage for Gig Work

A simple setup: clock in at the start of work, clock out at the end, log payouts, and keep personal driving off the record.

Start on the next shift, not on January 1. The habit is: clock in when work starts, pause for personal driving, log money, clock out when you are done.

GigMeter follows that loop on iPhone. Download on the App Store.

Before you leave

  1. Pick a rule for “work has started.” Leaving the driveway for the first offer is a clean one.
  2. Allow location While Using the App if you want miles. You can clock in without it; distance will not count.
  3. If you want gas in net, save a vehicle and a price per gallon (or litre) so Auto Gas Mileage Tracking can estimate fuel.

On the first shift

  1. Open GigMeter and clock in. If you have more than one car saved and auto gas is on, confirm which vehicle.
  2. Do the gigs in whatever apps you already use. GigMeter does not replace them and does not import from them.
  3. When a payout shows, add it and pick the platform.
  4. Add parking or tolls if you paid them.
  5. Pause if you stop for something personal. Resume when you are working again.
  6. Clock out. Read net, hours, miles, and expenses on the summary. Edit if a number is wrong.

After a few days

Open Reports. Week is Monday–Sunday. Check by-platform if you split time. Export CSV or PDF if you want a file off the phone.

If iCloud is on, sessions can follow you to another device on the same Apple ID. If it is off, the phone is the only copy. Export anything you cannot afford to lose. Details: Privacy.
